HOLIDAY DESCRIPTIONThis is a trip for everyone as this is a wonderful opportunity to experience terrain and geology like never before in this unique region of Turkey called Cappadocia. This is one of those rare places that must be experienced at least once in a lifetime  There are so many fascinating things to see and do in Cappadocia, you could spend a lifetime here discovering the dramatic rock formations and experiencing Turkish hospitality. After visiting this region several times in the past, our most recent trip being in September 2. The dramatic landscape of Cappadocia is perfect for trekking with its warm sun, dry air, spectacular views and hikes of varying ability. We will be staying in Goreme which is a sought after tourist area with an ambience of cliquey restaurants and a caf culture, but is off the beaten track when it comes to the world of hiking. An undiscovered treasure for the walker who has done it all, its mind blowing scenery is a photographers dream come true. We will visit soring rock formations, uniquely rippled landscape, rock cut churches, mountains, valleys, fairy chimneys and pigeon houses, which all sounds a bit unfamiliar, but if you dare to carry on reading you will learn more about the wonders this region has to offer you. We invite you to stay in the very unique environment of a cave hotel. Your historic Cappadocia cave living experience in the 2. Century includes an ancient rock dwelling, carved from natural stone that has been renovated into rooms that combine rustic style with modern day design. Included are visits to ancient churches, pigeon houses, an historical Mosque and monastery were we will see frescos dating back to the 1. See fruit as we walk though orchards and vineyard, filled with plums, grapes, apples and pears, where local farmers may allow you to sample. On our hikes we will have short stops to experience nut and fruit stands, a chance to purchase traditional Turkish food and wine tasting from a local vineyard. There are many opportunities to take photographs of vista, valleys, evil eye, pottery and bow trees, which Turkey is famous for decorating their trees. HIKING ABILITYThis is a true hiking holiday to one of the most beautiful regions in Turkey. The hikes have been chosen to suit the ability within the Outdooraholics group, however, a good level of fitness, and determination will be required achieve 5 days of hiking. Although most of the hikes are listed at a medium level, with one hard day of walking, you need to be aware that it can seem more challenging due to the hot temperature in the Cappadocia region. You will be required to carry at least 2 litres of water per day, which can add to the challenge. Difficultly Warning. The hikes on this trip vary, but some of them involve ruff and uneven ground, rock, boulders and minor scrambles. This trip is suitable for fit hikers with a positive attitude and love for sunshine, but can adapt to variable weather conditions, as the heat of the day can cause rain storm on occasion. It is not super tough, so please dont come expecting a mountain challenge or a fast pace as we will allow stops for photography, culture and rest. Good hiking boots or summit shoes with good tread are always recommended on rocky ground. Itinerary. Weather in the valleys can be changeable, therefore we leave it up to the hike leaders to vary the itinerary to suit weather conditions for the group, but generally the following itinerary will be followed. Saturday 2. 2nd September. As this is travel day and it takes most of the day to travel to this region we ask you to check in to your pre arrange room upon arrival. Your hike leaders will be arriving at approximately 9. If not then we will see you at breakfast, which is followed by our first briefing meeting at 9. Sunday 2. 3rd September. This valley is named for its many traditional Cappadocian dovecotes, we will work our way through the maze of trails between Greme and a nearby town. This is ideal for photography as it is a relatively moderate trek, with some reversing back upon yourself to see the hundreds of pigeon houses that have been carved into the soft rock since ancient times. Leave some extra space in your backpack as we will visit a great shop where you can purchase speciality food items and those famous Turkish delights. The valley is also known for its plump grapes and vineyards, so the day would not go amiss without a stop a local wine shop to sample and potentially purchase some Turkish wines. Monday 2. 4th September. Distance     8. 7 miles 1. Ascent        6. Rating          Medium. This valley is a stunning and lush canyon with a depth of approximately 1. This is a very pleasant walk through the valley alongside the Melendiz River. We will cross the river over an unusual tree bridge to see some of the many cave churches, once the home of monks who instructed Christianity. It is believed that the valley housed more than four thousand dwellings and a hundred cave churches decorated with frescoes. We will stop along the way for a freshly squeezed orange or pomegranate juice at a local Village, where we will sit in a secluded cafe straddling the river. Once finished we will continue or hike and climb up to the maze of cave houses, including ancient mosques. Our hike will end in a village, thereafter giving you free time to explore the area and open air museum. Tuesday 2. 5th September. Distance     9. 5 miles 1.
